About the Project
Equaltwo .
Sustainable Streetwear .
TEAM : Shreyans Baid + Sukanya Bose
Is what’s good always right? Equaltwo is a streetwear brand that makes bags and accessories from manufacturing waste in India targeted to millennials aged 21-35.
Trapped in a world of more is more, we believe in making our customer’s feel light and taste the freedom from guilt of buying into fast fashion trends. We as a team created a collection of timeless designs, made from 100% recycled felt, cotton and polyester.
So the next time you want to invest in fashion you get to have the best of both worlds!
“What People had to say”
Products branded as sustainable are usually expensive with no guarantee that they really are sustainable. Also, they are hard to find.
Saksham Verma, 25, India
As a sustainable garments business owner, I have noticed that no one really cares about the materials or how sustainable it is. It’s always the aesthetics.’-
Sneha Doshi, 26, India
Sustainability is becoming elitist. To the point that vegetables are more expensive to buy than
fast food.-

Insights:
-
lack of an organised system in place for textile waste management and consumers turning a blind eye towards the topic.
How might we:
-
Increase awareness about the problem,
-
Improve accessibility for the consumers and grow the adoption of upcycled products.
How can we grow adoption?
We wanted to enter the bags and accessories market with the face of an ethical brand that drives conscious consumerism.
With the belief that value lies in the mind of the user, we built a brand in the name of Equaltwo.
Keeping the products affordable coupled with a timeless design aesthetic was a key implementation of our
consumer research takeaways.
How we started building the product?

Before we went into production I used shredded cotton waste from textile manufacturing industries and bound them together using felting techniques to develop my own felt material named “Scrilt”.

Opportunity Within Product Aesthtics
We ideated a lot using sketches and parallelly built a lot of prototypes to test the structure of the bag and applications of the material.
In the process of making prototypes we learnt a way to further reduce textile cutoffs in the
pre-consumer phase (Manufacturing).

How?
Spread awareness.
What drove us to start Equaltwo was the need to translate these realizations to the masses and the vision to create a brand that doesn't just sell sustainable products but constantly creates and evolves sustainable materials in the long run that will give the world a choice that will help them choose the right thing.
To spread awareness about the topic we kept the 'materials' story as the hero and crafted a brand along with many of the brand touchpoints like packaging, website, social media, repair kits, emailers and launch it under the campaign ' Bags not Baggage'
'One man's trash is another man's treasure'. This idea really inspired us to name our venture ' EQUALTWO'. The same object can have two different perspectives towards it.
We believe it's all about perspective and that is reflected in our eye logo mark and
the overall branding is aimed to be perceived as bold, honest and sophisticated.
